Chateau Mouton Rothschild is located in the village of Pauillac and it was the first estate to begin complete château bottling of the harvest. It was widely believed that the exclusion of Ch. Mouton Rothschild from 1st Grand Cru Classe in 1855 was because its owner was an Englishman. In 1973, Mouton was elevated to "first growth" and this prompted a change of its motto from "First, I cannot be. Second, I do not deign to be. Mouton I am." to "First, I am. Second, I used to be. But Mouton does not change."
