South Australia
South Australia produces about half of total Australian wine output. From the cool maritime environment of Coonawarra in the south, to the temperate Barossa Valley just north of Adelaide, the state of South Australia includes a range of grape growing environments. The Claire Valley enjoys hot days and cool nights, allowing it to produce Australia’s most highly regarded Rieslings. The climate in the Adelaide Hills boasts a climate similar to that of Champagne or Burgundy – cool and relatively wet, this is an excellent environment for producing elegant Chardonnay and sparkling wines.
