WSET – The World's Leading Wine Education Programmes

WSET is a UK-based educational charity that works closely with educational partners and regulatory authorities around the world to provide educational courses, some of which lead to professional qualifications recognized by the wine industry. WSET is now represented in 47 countries worldwide, whose qualifications are currently available in 13 different languages. Last year, over 24,000 students sat for WSET examinations.

Designations are awarded by WSET on several levels. Level 1 is the “Foundation Certificate in Wines,” achieved during a one-day course that focuses on basic product knowledge and skills needed in the service and sale of wine. The “Intermediate Certificate in Wines & Spirits” (Level 2) provides training in the job skills required for customer service and sales functions in the hospitality, retail and distribution industries.

In addition to administering WSET Level 1 and Level 2 courses, ASC Fine Wines will act as an “Approved Programme Provider” for Level 3 study, leading to the “International Higher Certificate in Wines & Spirits.” This designation gives certificate holders the core knowledge appropriate for those in a supervisory capacity in wine-related jobs. WSET advanced diplomas at Levels 4 and 5 will not be offered in China initially.

All of these courses employ the “WSET Systematic Approach to Tasting” – a structured format for wine tasting that trains certificate holders to evaluate different wines systematically. The WSET tasting formats increase in complexity with the level of study.

ASC Fine Wines – The First Provider of WSET Programmes in Mainland China

As an Approved Programme Provider, ASC Fine Wines will coordinate classes for WSET qualifications and will also act as an examination center. Approved Program Providers undergo a rigorous approval process to ensure the WSET's high quality standards are met and are regularly monitored to assure a consistent experience for candidates around the world.

The WSET programmes administered in China are taught by WSET Approved Tutors. In mainland China, there are only 5 WSET Approved Tutors and four of them are from ASC. There are many successful cases and all the graduated students are now working in key positions. ASC’s network of WSET centers in China join WSET’s Asian network in Japan, Singapore, Korea and Malaysia.
