Decanter will be organising its first tasting event in Beijing in partnership with China’s leading wine importer and distributor, ASC Fine Wines to showcase winning wines from the Decanter Asia Wine Awards (DAWA).

The event will be held at Park Hyatt Beijing on Saturday, 19 May 2018.

The DAWA Beijing Tasting will bring the Chinese wine lovers some 60 award-winning wines including 11 wines won the Gold medal and above. The Grand Tasting wines come from 13 countries and regions including the popular countries such as France, Italy, Spain, Australia and New Zealand, as well as rarely seen ones in the Chinese wine scene like Bolivia and Georgia.

Beatrice Ng, Decanter’s international brand marketing manager said, ‘We are very excited to host our first-ever tasting in Beijing, after tastings in Hong Kong, Shanghai, Tokyo, and Seoul. The tasting will be a great opportunity for wine lovers to discover and sample wines that have been awarded by Decanter, a trusted source of wine recommendations. We would like to thank ASC Fine Wines for their support.’

Over 30 wines at the tasting are available for wine lovers to purchase at ASC Fine Wines. ASC’s Chief Executive Officer, Yoshi Shibuya said: ‘With our constant focus on quality, we partner with the finest wine brands to create an exceptional portfolio, which now includes over 1,200 premium labels of more than 100 world-renowned wineries from around the globe. ASC’s incomparable portfolio and expertise offer wine connoisseurs in China the most trustworthy source for the finest wines.’ He continued: ‘We are thrilled that the long expected and highly exalted Decanter tasting has finally come to Beijing. We are honoured to be Decanter’s exclusive partner locally in China to make the event happen. We are confident the quality of the DAWA winning wines will make it a star event to shine in the wine scene in China.’

Professor LI Demei, DAWA vice-chair and DecanterChina.com columnist, will host a masterclass introducing six top medal winning wines he has personally selected to demonstrate the quality of the DAWA.

Ms. Dorian Tang, National Wine Education Director of ASC Fine Wines, who also judges at Decanter Asian Wine Awards, will host a mast class presenting special vintages of the leading Rioja producer Bodega Muga.

The DAWA Beijing Tasting is followed by the TopWine China 2018 on 21-23 May, in which Decanter will display eight DAWA medal winners from the Southern Hemisphere.

The Decanter Asia Wine Awards (DAWA) is Asia’s most trusted wine competition. First launched in 2012, the competition aims to provide consumers with a trusted source of wine recommendations.

All wines are judged blind in the best possible tasting environment and each wine is discussed on an individual basis by a professional judging panel, consisting of the top wine experts from the Asia market. The judging panel is led by DAWA chair Steven Spurrier, and vice-chairs Gerard Basset MW MS, Michael Hill Smith MW, Andrew Jefford, Tasaki Shinya, LI Demei and CH’NG Poh Tiong.

A total of 3,235 wines were tasted in the DAWA 2017, and 15 wines have been awarded the Platinum Best in Show medal – the highest accolade.
